Password-protected browser history: keep private sites in a separate vault
Not every website you visit belongs in the same list. You may want to remember a sensitive research source, a personal project, or a private website without leaving it in the ordinary BestHistory browsing list.
Deleting everything is one option. But sometimes the real need is the opposite: keep a record for yourself, and protect it from casual viewing.
Ordinary history, incognito, and a private vault are different
| Option | What it helps with | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome history | Revisiting pages saved by the browser | Entries are accessible through Chrome’s history interface |
| Incognito window | Avoiding ordinary local history retention for that session | The browser normally does not retain the session’s history after it closes |
| BestHistory Pro Private Mode | Keeping selected private history encrypted locally, separate from BestHistory’s ordinary website list | It is not a tool for anonymity or hiding network activity |
A private history vault is for people who want remembering and discretion, not simply deletion.
What BestHistory Private Mode does
BestHistory Pro can keep private site URLs, page titles, and visit records in a locally encrypted private database. You unlock the private view with the password you set.
When the vault is locked, its records are not displayed in BestHistory’s ordinary website list. The Private Mode password and decrypted private records are not sent to BestHistory’s account server.
This does not mean that a separate entry in Chrome’s built-in history, another extension, a browser sync service, or a backup elsewhere is automatically erased. Review those separately when privacy matters.
What about saving your own incognito history?
Chrome usually discards incognito browsing history after the incognito window closes. Some people still want to remember a private site later.
BestHistory Pro can optionally record visits from incognito windows into the encrypted private view, but only after you explicitly enable the extension in incognito mode. BestHistory cannot switch on that permission for you.

Does a private vault make browsing anonymous?
No. A protected local history view does not hide activity from websites, networks, internet providers, employers, or monitoring outside the browser. It also does not make a computer shared with someone else automatically secure.
If you do not want a session retained at all, do not enable optional incognito recording for that session.
Why use a private vault instead of deleting history?
Deletion is appropriate when you no longer want a record. A vault solves a different problem: some history is useful enough to keep, but too personal to place among everyday browsing records.
BestHistory’s ordinary website-first search is free without an account. Private Mode is a Pro feature, and new accounts currently receive a 30-day Pro trial. Read the privacy notice before enabling it.
